Romanians bought 161,562 new cars in 2019, with 23.4% more than in 2018. This growth placed Romania on second position in EU in terms of new car sales, after Lithuania, with 43.2%.
This statistic offered by the ACEA (European Automobile Car Manufacturers Association) is also considered an economical indicator. By registering more new vehicles, a particular economy may indicate a growing purchasing power of its citizens, but also, in some cases, more readiness from the banks to offer loans to population.
Romania has known an unprecedented growth in the last 3 years, as the economy grew, mostly due to internal consumption. On the other hand, the exporting industries, such as car manufacturing and IT, but also agriculture, helped Romanian economy found a steady pace.
Recently, the Romanian car manufacturer DACIA took advantage of an unintended PR stunt: 2 Romanians, husband and wife, reached the coldest village on Earth, driving a DACIA Duster. The astonishing record is the sheer fact they did it without any other help and without being as part of a convoy. Just two of them and their already famous DACIA Duster whom they called NEO.
