The Romanian gaming industry reported a turnover of 218 million USD in 2020, according to a study conducted by the Romanian Game Developers Association cited by Agerpres.
According to the study, the turnover grew by 19% in 2020 compared to 2019. Among the best games developed in Romania, there are FIFA 2021, developed by the local subsidiary of EA Games, and Watch Dogs: Legion, developed by the local subsidiary of Ubisoft.
The number of the local gaming studios has grown to 120, from 100 in 2019. Half of them are in Bucharest, while the rest are in some of the main cities in Romania. Also in 2020, some international big players opened branches in Romania: Funcom, Kolibri Games, Wolcen, and Ten Square Games.
Currently, the gaming industry in Romania employs 6,000 software developers.
In Romania there are around 8 million electronic games players and the number is expected to grow.
In October, in Bucharest, there was organized The International 10, DOTA 2 Final Tournament. The Russians from Team Spirit won it and went home with a prize of 18,208,300 USD.
