Romania Extends Its Quarantine To The Entire Country

Romania’s president Klaus Iohannis announced on Tuesday, March 24, that the whole country will be placed under quarantine, which means that the movement restrictions for citizens that so far have been only recommendations become mandatory. He also decided to use the Army to help keep the situation under control. The decisions come after a spike in the number of new Covid-19 cases in Romania in recent days.

The Romanian president said that people over 65 years old are no longer allowed to leave the house. The army will support the police to ensure compliance, and in the case of persons quarantined or isolated, electronic devices will be established so that they can be controlled.

“A very special point, because I must mention it – the most vulnerable people are the ones over 65 years old. It is obvious that we need special measures, but also special restrictions for them. And so, for the protection of people over 65, for people who will be able to introduce special restrictions, in the sense that they might have, in their own interest, to be able to practice at home at all times. ” declared Klaus Iohannis.
