Romania – European Cyber Security Champions for 2019

Romania has won the ECSC – European Cyber Security Challenge for 2019, a competition reaching its 6th edition and organized in Bucharest this year.

Students from 20 European countries have gathered in Bucharest between 9-11 October, facing cyber security challenges and earning points for their national teams. The competition comprised challenges like web security, cryptography, reverse engineering and investigations, coding, atack and defence, Linux /Windows/ macOS security, security for mobile devices and IoT (Internet of Things).

Romania, which is a regional cyber security supplier, at the inter-governmental level, has a very extensive cyber security history, which dates back to the very early ’90s, when RAV (Romanian Antivirus) was coded as a very effective antivirus at that time, in 1994. It was so effective as Microsoft bought the software for 10 mil USD, a hefty sum of money at that time. Later on, Romanian entrepreneurs developed BitDefender, which is one of the most prized antiviruses on the cyber security market.

Romania’s winning team at ECSC 2019: Robert Vulpe (captain), Florian-Robert Dobre, Dragos Albastroiu, Ioan Dragomir, Mihai Dancaescu, Cristian Done, Matei Badanoiu, Alexandru Top, Tudor Moga and Mihai Cioata. CONGRATULATIONS!
