After the initial rejection of the request to allow the pride parade in the center of Bucharest, the City Mayor gives up to LGBTQ pressure. On Monday, August 9, Nicusor Dan announced the pride parade has a green light.
According to the City Hall, the parade is to take place on Saturday, August 14, at the very place the organizers intended to hold it from the first time: Calea Victoriei.
The boulevard is a symbol of the city, with lots of tourists visiting the attractions. Moreover, during weekends, the boulevard becomes pedestrian, thus offering the residents the opportunity to enjoy a nice stroll.
LGBTQ is a controversial subject in Romania. In a country where most of its people are religious believers, the annual pride parade is not a welcomed event. This is why all the 500 participants to the event will be guarded, like in any other year, by military police forces – the Gendarmerie.
The authorities plan the security measures to such events in advance, for any homophobic attacks to be prevented.
