By August 24, 79,330 cases of people have been confirmed to be infected with the new Coronavirus in Romania. The last week though brought a premiere: it is for the first time in the last 11 weeks when this rate decreased, returning below 6% on average.
So far, 35,517 patients were cured and the death rate is dropping slowly, but remains at a high level.
The fact is, the report for the last two weeks shows a slight decrease in the death rate in Romania (reported per hundred thousand inhabitants). However, Spain, Belgium and even Italy are experiencing rapid increases in the death rate. In fact, Italy announced on Sunday over 1200 new cases, the highest balance in the last three months, identifying almost 4700 new cases in the last week. The Italian Institute of Health has revealed some surprising statistics: the average age of those who have contracted the new coronavirus in Italy is 63 years.
This is the first good news for Romania in the recent weeks, even if there is still a lot to accomplish until the authorities can claim they control the pandemic. Yet, for a country which is on the yellow lists across the continent, it is a good start.
