Over the past 10 years, Romanian agriculture has recorded significant productivity gains, higher than those recorded by Hungary or Poland. The comparison with these countries is justified because a large part of the imports of agricultural products come from these two economies.
In the field of plant production, the supply of farms with agricultural machinery and equipment is in Poland at the level of Poland, and the average yields per hectare for wheat, rapeseed and sunflower are comparable to those of Poland and Hungary. According to a study by the National Bank of Romania, the production of cereals and oil plants, labor productivity is higher in Romania than in Poland.
These productions are made with a consumption of chemical fertilizers to less than half in comparison to what was recorded in Hungary or Poland. This enables local producers to orient themselves towards organic farming. The new EU Common Agricultural Policy leaves it to Member States to decide regarding the agricultural payment ceiling , so that large Romanian farms will keep their subsidies.
