Romanian National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD) decided to sanction Google Bucharest for discrimination.
In fact, this year, on May 3, the name of the People’s Salvation Cathedral, which is situated near the Palace of Parliament, appeared on Google Maps as People’s Foolishness Cathedral.
According to CNCD press release, the Council sanctioned Google Bucharest’s misdeed of not informing Google Ireland about the discriminatory name of the Cathedral, thus Google Ireland not taking in due time measures to change the name of the building to its original.
Google Bucharest was fined with 2,000 EUR and, according to the decision, Google Romania will display the link to the sanction on its first page for 10 days. Also, Google Romania has to translate the Code of Conduct in Romanian as well and has to make more accessible its reporting system, including in Romanian.
