Tragedy in Piatra-Neamt, Northern Romania: 10 COVID-19 infected patients died following a fire inside the hospital where they were treated in the intensive care unit unit. 8 of them died in the fire that occurred in the room where they were intubated, and other 2 patients died while they were transferred in other rooms after the fire burst.
Also, 4 medical staff members are injured, one of them in a very serious condition with burns on 40% of the body.
From the first information offered by the local medical personnel, all of the patients who died in fire were already in serious condition because of COVID-19, most of them being intubated, but some were also wearing oxygen masks to help them breath.
An official investigation is conducted to find out more about the cause of the fire and to find out what exactly happened. Specialists say that an explosion might have occurred, given the force of the fire.
