Bucharest City Tour: Hop-On Hop-Off Buses Return to the Capital

A New Start for Bucharest Sightseeing Buses

Bucharest has officially relaunched its Hop-On Hop-Off sightseeing buses under the program name Bucharest City Tour. Starting August 25, 2025, tourists can once again enjoy open-top double-decker buses connecting the capital’s most famous landmarks.

The relaunch marks the return of a service that had been suspended before the pandemic. For years, Bucharest lacked the classic tourist bus tour that travellers expect in major European cities. Now, with the new Bucharest City Tour, visitors gain a flexible, panoramic and affordable way to explore Romania’s capital.

Route and Main Attractions

The 14-stop circular route covers about 15 kilometres and can be completed in roughly one hour. The buses start and finish at Piața Presei Libere and stop at all major tourist attractions:

  • House of the Free Press
  • Village Museum
  • Arch of Triumph
  • Romanian Athenaeum
  • Calea Victoriei
  • Palace of the Parliament
  • Unirii Square
  • University Square
  • Victory Square
  • Romană Square
  • Charles de Gaulle Square
  • Kiseleff Park
  • Herăstrău Park
  • Return to Piața Presei Libere

This itinerary allows tourists to experience both historic landmarks and green areas, making it one of the most complete sightseeing experiences in Bucharest.

The double-deckers feature open roofs for panoramic views, free Wi-Fi, and multilingual audio guides. They are also equipped for accessibility, making the service friendly to families with strollers or travellers with reduced mobility.

Why Hop-On Hop-Off Bucharest Matters

In Europe, hop-on hop-off buses are a must-have attraction. Cities like Paris, London or Barcelona have turned these services into iconic tourist experiences. Bucharest’s relaunch is an important step in competing with other capitals and in improving the city-break offer for international visitors.

Although relaunched under the name Bucharest City Tour, the service is widely known internationally as the Hop-On Hop-Off bus. Visitors searching for either name will now easily recognize the tour as Bucharest’s main sightseeing route

Tourism specialists underline that reintroducing the sightseeing bus is not only a service for visitors but also a visibility tool for Bucharest as a destination. It creates a unified tourist circuit that showcases the city’s diversity, from monumental architecture to cultural venues and parks.
