AstraZeneca vaccine is safe. This is the conclusion of the EMA – European Medicines Agency, the European regulator of the market, after investigating possible links between the vaccine and severe secondary effects.
The investigation of the regulator over AstraZeneca vaccine has started when more and more people developed blood clots, apparently in relation to this sort of vaccine. Interesting enough, neither the European agency ruled out the possibility of a link between the vaccine and blood clots, but the cases will be investigated further.
In fact, EMA’s representatives said that the link between AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clots cannot be ruled out yet, but the benefits outweigh risks.
The committee has come to a clear scientific conclusion: this is a safe and effective vaccine.
Emer Cooke, EMA chief
Is this statement and these conclusions enough to get back people to the vaccination centers where AstraZeneca is the vaccine to be taken? Will those 13 European Union countries which have suspended the vaccination with AstraZeneca allow this vaccine to be used again? Will this regain the confidence of the people? We’ll see the effects of the EMA press conference from Thursday over the trust of the general population over the next few weeks.
So far, more than 40 million shots were administered in the European Union member states.
Romania has not interrupted the vaccination with AstraZeneca and will definitely continue to offer this vaccine over the next months following today’s announcement. The goal of the authorities is to reach 10.4 million people immunized by September.
