<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After a long discussion with artist Speak in one of his <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQH2iJ25Q-M">podcast</a> sessions, Sorana Cîrstea spoke among some of her professional tennis athlete stories about her experience with Adidas as a sponsor and why she cancelled the contract with the brand. </p>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"><p>&#8221;It&#8217;s better to look good and be in the top 20, than not look so good and be number 1. When you&#8217;re in the top 20, however you&#8217;re seen, you&#8217;re in every week at every tournament.&#8221;</p><cite>Adidas Representatives</cite></blockquote>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong> </strong>Sorana is currently being sponsored by New Balance, after having a long 10-year sponsorship contract with Adidas, between 2006 to 2016. The tennis player made this decision after learning that the sports giant was more focused on the athletes&#8217; appearances than their on-field performance. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="956" height="960" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-22373" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea.jpg 956w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-300x300.jpg 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-150x150.jpg 150w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-768x771.jpg 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-280x280.jpg 280w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-398x400.jpg 398w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-585x587.jpg 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-24x24.jpg 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-36x36.jpg 36w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sorana-Cirstea-48x48.jpg 48w" sizes="(max-width: 956px) 100vw, 956px" /><figcaption><em>Source: Facebook</em></figcaption></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unfortunately, she is not the only professional Romanian athlete that faced problems with the contracts and partnerships with the Adidas brand. <a href="https://valahia.news/simona-halep-leaves-us-open-2022/">Simona Halep</a>, the top tennis player worldwide, also contracted with Adidas from 2014 to 2018. The athlete was under-payed by the sponsor for her outstanding performances and wanted to receive more, however, Adidas refused. This was a big loss for the brand, given that shortly after, the athlete signed a $1.7 million contract with Nike.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-1024x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-22375" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-300x300.jpg 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-150x150.jpg 150w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-768x768.jpg 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-480x480.jpg 480w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-280x280.jpg 280w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-960x960.jpg 960w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-400x400.jpg 400w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-585x585.jpg 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-24x24.jpg 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-36x36.jpg 36w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep-48x48.jpg 48w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Simona-Halep.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption><em>Source: Facebook</em></figcaption></figure></div>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"><p>&#8221;Generally our contracts are international and you are given according to how much you sell. The best paid are American, Chinese and Japanese women[&#8230;] Spain is ok. France. Eastern Europe doesn&#8217;t really sell[&#8230;].&#8221;</p><cite>Adidas</cite></blockquote>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="583" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-1024x583.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-22371" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-1024x583.jpg 1024w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-300x171.jpg 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-768x437.jpg 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-960x546.jpg 960w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-703x400.jpg 703w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-585x333.jpg 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-24x14.jpg 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-36x20.jpg 36w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes-48x27.jpg 48w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EEU-athletes.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption><em>Source: ProSport</em></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sorana Cîrstea further added that it depends a lot on each athlete&#8217;s goals and personality, what is important for each of them, if you give in under pressure for money and image or focus on tennis, your performance, and having a reliable team and partners around you. </p>
