After winning the 200 M Free event at the World Swimming Championship in Budapest, the Romanian David Popovici wins the gold medal in the 100 M Free event.
The performance is even more outstanding as David Popovici is only 17.
Popovici is the second swimmer after 1973 to win both 100 and 200 M events during the World Swimming Championships.
His style, determination and pace made the international media compare him to Michael Phelps or Ian Thorpe. Even though he comes from a country where this sport doesn’t have so many fans or infrastructure, David Popovici made it to the big league during his juniors. This could inspire an entire generation in Romania and elsewhere in the world.
