Romanian main Opposition party, PSD – Social Democratic Party, prepares a motion of no confidence against the Government. This is the announcement made by the party’s leader, Mr. Marcel Ciolacu.
We’ll submit the motion of no confidence on June 14. (…) We will try to overthrow the Government with this motion. There is a difference of 34 votes between the Governing coalition and the Opposition.

The subject of the motion is the way the governing coalition manages the PNRR – The Recovery and Resilience National Plan. Even the European Commission slammed the draft of the plan when the Romanian Government submitted it to be approved in Brussels. Up to this moment, Romania hasn’t yet come up with a final version of the plan, while other countries had their plans approved.
Political pundits offer no chance for the motion to be approved, even though the Opposition will definitely try to “steal” votes from the governing coalition. Yet, 34 votes are not so easy to get without some serious help from inside the governing coalition.
The only chance for the Opposition to succeed is for an internal political battle to be fought inside the PNL – National Liberal Party. There are opinions according to which the political clash between the leader of the party, Mr. Ludovic Orban, and Prime Minister Florin Citu could lead to the overthrown of the Government. Both leaders are preparing for the Liberal Party Congress, set up to be held in September, and, as it seldomly happens in Romanian politics, the individual interests are above the party’s interest.
