Romania’s most famous road has just been immortalised in steel, hybrid tech, and German engineering. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Transfăgărășan highway, Porsche chose the iconic mountain route to debut one of its most exclusive models to date: the 911 Carrera 4 GTS “Tribute to Transfăgărășan.”
Limited to only 10 units worldwide, this bespoke collector’s car was revealed in the Făgăraș Mountains during a high-profile event attended by Porsche owners, media, and guests from over ten countries.
With this move, Porsche didn’t just honour a Romanian engineering marvel. It tied its brand to one of the most scenic — and demanding — driving roads in the world.
What Makes the Transfăgărășan Porsche So Special?

The 911 Carrera 4 GTS “Tribute to Transfăgărășan” is more than a paint job and a badge.
This is the first road-going hybrid 911 ever built, signalling Porsche’s shift toward electrified performance without abandoning its racing DNA. It’s powered by a newly developed 3.6-litre flat-six turbocharged engine, paired with a compact electric motor that enhances both acceleration and efficiency. Together, they deliver over 541 horsepower and a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 3.0 seconds.

All-wheel drive, GTS suspension tuning, and exclusive aero features ensure the car is tuned not for the Autobahn, but for the kind of mountain switchbacks and rapid elevation changes that define the Transfăgărășan.
Each of the 10 models features a custom paint scheme inspired by the road’s altitude map and rock tones, unique badging and stitching referencing Romania’s most iconic route, a numbered interior plaque, and a commemorative graphic laser-etched near the gear selector.
Price? A Rare Porsche Comes at a Rare Price
According to Porsche insiders, the base price for the Tribute edition is estimated at €300,000, but final sales will likely exceed €400,000–€450,000 due to collector interest and the hybrid milestone. All 10 units are expected to be sold by invitation only, most likely going to long-time Porsche clients or elite collectors across Europe and the Middle East.
Given its mechanical significance and ultra-low production, this model could appreciate significantly, particularly if it becomes the benchmark for future hybrid 911s.
Romania in the Global Porsche Spotlight

The Transfăgărășan was built between 1970 and 1974 under Nicolae Ceaușescu’s regime, initially intended for military mobility in case of Soviet invasion. Half a century later, the road has become one of Europe’s most coveted driving routes — and now, the inspiration for a Porsche model.
This isn’t just branding. It’s a strategy.
By choosing Romania as the launch site and inspiration for this hybrid milestone, Porsche is placing Romanian infrastructure and landscapes into its brand narrative — something usually reserved for the Nürburgring, Le Mans, or the Alps.
And with journalists from 16 countries attending, the “Tribute to Transfăgărășan” event is already making headlines across Europe, not just in car media, but in travel and luxury publications as well.
The Bigger Picture: Engineering Meets Emotion
Porsche’s message is clear: The 911 isn’t just evolving mechanically. It’s evolving emotionally.
The Tribute to Transfăgărășan isn’t just about tech specs. It’s about place, identity, and a new kind of performance culture — one where location matters as much as lap times.
For Romania, it’s also a moment of pride: a sign that the country is no longer a footnote in the luxury and performance world, but a destination worthy of global attention and celebration.
Only ten people in the world will own the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Tribute to Transfăgărășan. But for everyone else, the message still resonates: Romania’s most excellent road has joined the Porsche legend. And the world is watching.
