<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Romania will host the 2023 World eSports Championship in Iasi. The competition will feature around 130 countries and over 1000 athletes.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The World eSports Championships returned to Romania after being held in the country&#8217;s capital, Bucharest, in 2013. The World Cup welcomes the best players to compete against each other in the first global eSports competition involving national teams, determining which nation will take home the trophy.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <a href="https://iesf.org/news/7142">official announcement</a> comes as a confirmation that Romania is becoming more and more attractive to the international e-gaming federations.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What are gaming and eSports, and how profitable are they for Iasi?</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to <a href="https://romanianews.today/romania-to-host-the-world-esports-championship-in-2023/">Romania News Today</a>, the occasion in Iasi marks the end of months of planning and negotiations to host the 2023 World eSports Championship final. The International eSports Federation has designated Iasi to begin the regulatory procedures for Romania since June 2020. As an official member of the IESF, Romania is recognized as a prominent player in the European Gaming and Sports sector.</p>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"><p>It is a global phenomenon. It already generates substantial profits for hardware companies.</p><cite>Adrian Socaciu from the Romanian Sports Institute</cite></blockquote>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Thousands of people are anticipated to attend the event in Iasi, which will host the most effervescent World Sports Championship in 2023, and the preparations for this well-known and highly-publicized competitive sport are well started.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-1024x493.jpg" alt="Gaming player" class="wp-image-16955" width="768" height="370" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-1024x493.jpg 1024w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-300x144.jpg 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-768x370.jpg 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-960x462.jpg 960w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-831x400.jpg 831w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-585x282.jpg 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-24x12.jpg 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-36x17.jpg 36w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport-48x23.jpg 48w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/esport.jpg 1350w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Iasi county&#8217;s notoriety seems to have significantly grown over the years due to the sports, cultural and social programs among young people. Also, the Romanian county is enjoying tremendous economic expansion, which is a good thing, mainly because the Eastern region of Romania, where Iasi is, does not know financial growth and is one of the poorest regions in Romania. Given that Iasi is to become the European gaming and eSports capital, it represents an investment and a generating element of profit.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The current trend in Iasi aims to develop a gaming and eSports sector based on three pillars: academic programs designed in collaboration with Iasi&#8217;s &#8220;Alexandru Ioan Cuza&#8221; University, the establishment of an eSports hub, and the organization of a gaming and sports festival.</p>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"><p>Esport is a competition or sport that requires skill an physical effort to play digital games where athletes compete in a World Championship.</p><cite>Adrian Socaciu from the Romanian Sports Institute</cite></blockquote>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">eSports is structured into tournaments and leagues, and it resembles traditional sports in many ways. Competition participation necessitates a demonstration of will, adherence to authority-imposed sports rules, and subordination to laws and regulations in which digital athletes vie for glory worldwide.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Gaming and eSports have grown into a multibillion-dollar industry on a national and worldwide scale. Hardware companies are already reaping significant rewards as a result of this. For the organizers, it&#8217;s a dynamic of events that draws thousands of dedicated players and millions of viewers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to statistics presented to the tax authorities, Romania&#8217;s gaming and eSports industry earned sales of more than 200 million euros in 2020. Romania&#8217;s gaming industry now employs over 125 businesses and 6,000 people, making it one of the top 10 in the European Union.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How many countries are represented, and how many competitors are competing in 2023?</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The World eSports Championship will feature over 130 countries and 1,200 players. On March 29, 2022, the championship prizes will be revealed at a news conference. The Romanian Institute provides the most up-to-date European technology statistics, trends, and data to excel in this industry. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph" id="tw-target-text">But Iasi does not stop at this competition but to become one of the European hubs for producing online and browser games, according to Adrian Socaciu from the Romanian Sports Institute.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After hosting other e-competitions of the kind, such as the <a href="https://valahia.news/dota-2-international-10-tournament-2021-bucharest/">Dota2 Final Tournament 2021, </a>Romania has become one of the most attractive countries globally for e-gamers worldwide. This new event only offers more opportunities for the country and the players.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><em>Valve</em>, the corporation behind the DOTA 2, decided to cancel the ticket sales for Bucharest Final Tournament. The announcement was made on Sunday, October 3, and it took into consideration the worsening of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bucharest. </p>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-style-default is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow"><p>We have been carefully evaluating the continued rise of Covid rates in Romania, as well as the resulting introduction of new local restrictions in Bucharest. To ensure the safety of all players, talent, and production staff participating in the event, <strong>we have decided to refund all ticket sales for The International 2021</strong>. We wanted nothing more than to welcome fans live to the event, but we can no longer do so in a way that allows us to prioritize the health and well-being of both audience members and participants. Those who purchased tickets will be issued a full refund automatically. The International 2021 will begin as planned on October 7, and we look forward to welcoming the best Dota teams in the world to the stage and sharing the experience online with millions of fans around the world.</p><cite>Valve Press Release</cite></blockquote>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So, <a href="https://valahia.news/dota-2-international-10-tournament-2021-bucharest/">The International 10</a> is to start on October 7, but no spectators will be allowed to attend the games at the National Arena in Bucharest, as was originally planned. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The pool prize for this year exceeds 40 million USD and the winning team is expected to cash in at least 18 million USD. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Esports is about to be recognized as a sport in Romania. </strong>This is the announcement the Romanian authorities made during <em>the first Esports summit held in Bucharest, Romania</em> on July 21.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bucharest had the honor of organizing the first Esports event and also Bucharest has the honor of organizing one of the most important Esports events this year, in October: <a href="https://visitbucharest.today/dota-2-romania/">DOTA 2 Final Tournament &#8211; The International 10</a>. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By the way &#8211; are you coming to Bucharest this October for the DOTA 2 Tournament? While finding out that<a href="https://valahia.news/bucharest-is-safe-for-travel/"> Bucharest is safe for travelers,</a> it&#8217;s still worth reading this <a href="https://visitbucharest.today/top-bucharest/bucharest-survival-guide-for-dota2-players/">survival guide in Bucharest for DOTA 2 players and fans</a>. You might find it of help while in Romania&#8217;s capital city. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This DOTA 2 tournament had a great influence on this decision from the Romanian government. The tournament was relocated to Romania after Sweden authorities refused to grant sports visas to the DOTA 2 players and teams. This is why <a href="https://www.dota2.com/newsentry/2968417243145568913" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stockholm was replaced by Bucharest </a>and the Romanian government is more than happy to have this event organized in the country. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And if you wondered why is Romania so into Esports recently, you have to know that <em>Vlad Marinescu</em>, the President of the Esports Federation, is Romanian. His influence and his Romanian roots have definitely counted in the equation. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Bucharest was chosen by the organizers at the last minute</strong>, after Stockholm, the initial city picked up for the tournament, failed to meet the organizers&#8217; demands. <div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="https://visitbucharest.today"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="493" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-1024x493.png" alt="Bucharest map" class="wp-image-10541" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-1024x493.png 1024w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-300x144.png 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-768x370.png 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-960x462.png 960w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-831x400.png 831w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-585x282.png 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-24x12.png 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-36x17.png 36w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest-48x23.png 48w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Travel-to-Bucharest.png 1350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><em>If you go to Bucharest for the DOTA 2 games</em>, you will also be able to discover a city full of attractions for tourists. The biggest city in Romania, also the capital of the country, hosts around 1.8 million inhabitants in the main area, but around 2.2 million if you consider the outskirts. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bucharest was once called <em>the Little Paris</em> The city resembles the French Capital up to a point. <em>Bucharest Arc of Triumph</em> definitely reminds you of Paris, but you can also visit the largest civilian building in the world, now the <em>Palace of Parliament</em>, or the biggest Orthodox Cathedral in the world: <em>The Romanian Cathedral</em>, now in construction. Or, maybe, you just pick up your own<a href="https://visitbucharest.today/bucharest-attractions/"> Bucharest attractions</a> to visit. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized is-style-default"><a href="https://visitbucharest.today/bucharest-attractions/"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-1024x493.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-11484" width="768" height="370" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-1024x493.jpg 1024w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-300x144.jpg 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-768x370.jpg 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-960x462.jpg 960w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-831x400.jpg 831w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-585x282.jpg 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-24x12.jpg 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-36x17.jpg 36w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest-48x23.jpg 48w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Destination-Bucharest.jpg 1350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Anyway, if you would also like to discover Bucharest while in the city for TI10, you have to know that some enthusiastic locals thought of developing a project to help all foreign tourists in Bucharest discover the city: <a href="https://visitbucharest.today">Visit Bucharest Today!</a> It comes as a website or an Android app. Until October, it will be also available for the Appstore as well.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=visit.bucharest"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-512x1024.jpg" alt="Bucharest guide" class="wp-image-9652" width="384" height="768" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-512x1024.jpg 512w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-150x300.jpg 150w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-200x400.jpg 200w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-585x1170.jpg 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-12x24.jpg 12w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-18x36.jpg 18w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min-24x48.jpg 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/visit-bucharest-today-mobile-app-min.jpg 750w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px" /></a><figcaption><strong>Bucharest guide with audio feature:</strong> Visit Bucharest Today!</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bucharest is one of the safest cities in Europe</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>The criminality rate in Bucharest is among the lowest across Europe.</strong> It didn&#8217;t mean you have to be totally careless, though, but it&#8217;s good to know that Bucharest, and Romania, in general, are safe. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If anything happens, <em>immediately call 112</em>. This is the European emergency number and by dialing it you can access all the emergency services &#8211; health, police, or firefighters. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you don&#8217;t have access to a phone, address any citizen on the street. <a href="https://valahia.news/english-proficiency-bucharest/">Bucharest is among the top European cities when it comes to the English speaking level</a> and you can address the majority of the locals in English. They&#8217;ll help you find your wait out of the situation, whether you&#8217;re lost or you have any sort of problem. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Romania is the country with the cheapest cost for food in Europe and the cheapest broad band internet</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://madameb.ro"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Madame-B-Pancake-House-1024x683.jpg" alt="Pancakes" class="wp-image-11471" width="768" height="512"/></a></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is probably one of the best news for any DOTA 2 fan or e-gamer out there. <a href="https://valahia.news/cost-of-living-romania/">The cheap food pricing and the cost for broadband internet</a> make Romania the best possible country for a large venue of e-gamers like this event. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Also, locals developed a certain attraction for the fast-food chains, such as <em>McDonald&#8217;s</em> or <em>KFC</em>. This has changed Bucharest over the past years and you can literally find one fast-food shop at any corner. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Still, if you want to try something special, go to one of the best <a href="https://madameb.ro">Pancake House in Bucharest</a> or trying some local food at <em><a href="https://visitbucharest.today/restaurant/caru-cu-bere/">Caru&#8217; cu Bere</a></em>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The speed of the broadband internet makes Romania an attractive country for digital nomads from all over the world. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="https://valahia.news/digital-nomad-romania/"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="913" height="625" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1.png" alt="Top 5 internet speed" class="wp-image-9695" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1.png 913w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1-300x205.png 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1-768x526.png 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1-584x400.png 584w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1-585x400.png 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1-24x16.png 24w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1-36x25.png 36w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Digital-Nomad-Index-min-1-48x33.png 48w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 913px) 100vw, 913px" /></a><figcaption>Top 5 countries in Digital Nomad Index</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The International 10 DOTA 2 event is hosted on National Arena &#8211; the largest stadium in the country</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-style-default"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="566" src="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena-1024x566.jpg" alt="Bucharest football arena" class="wp-image-7042" srcset="https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena-1024x566.jpg 1024w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena-300x166.jpg 300w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena-768x424.jpg 768w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena-960x530.jpg 960w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena-724x400.jpg 724w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena-585x323.jpg 585w, https://valahia.news/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/National-Arena.jpg 1280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Actually, Bucharest hosts the second major tournament this year after this summer it organized four games in the UEFA EURO 2020 football tournament. Also postponed from 2020, the football tournament games were a success for the Romanian capital and the football fans visiting Bucharest enjoyed their stay. This also means that <strong>Bucharest definitely has the capacity to organize major international events</strong> of this kind.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>The capacity of the stadium is 53,329 total attendees</strong>, but information regarding tickets available is still to be offered by the organizers. Anyway, it is the first time after the pandemic when a live audience will attend the DOTA 2 final tournament.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The International 10 DOTA 2 Tournament is definitely going to take advantage of one nice feature of the stadium: it has a retractable roof, able to cover the stadium entirely. Thus, <em>the spectators and the players will be properly sheltered in case of bad weather</em>. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The stadium is not in the center of the city, but the<a href="https://visitbucharest.today/bucharest-public-transport/"> public transport in Bucharest</a> offers lots of available options for DOTA 2 fans to get to the venue easily. One can choose between the subway, trolleybuses, buses, or even trams to get to the stadium from any point in Bucharest.</p>
