Hardwell, the famous Dutch artist, came to perform at the SAGA Festival, one of the most famous music festivals in Bucharest. His performance wasn’t what fans expected, as he only played around 10 minutes and started making accusations.

According to Hardwell, his performance wasn’t paid for by the organizers, and the equipment was of poor quality.

Hardwell left the stage after this announcement, and the SAGA Festival had to cope with another major PR issue. This happens after this week, Bucharest’s General Mayor announced he is suing SAGA Festival for not paying bills to the Municipality after last year’s show on National Arena.

SAGA Festival representatives posted a message on social media accounts addressing Hardwell’s disappointment., basically saying that other artists used the same equipment and didn’t complain.

This scandal casts a shadow over one of the major Bucharest Festivals, and this is not beneficial for the city or for festivalgoers.

For 29 days, more than 3,500 invited artists will perform on the stages of the Palatului Hall, the Romanian Athenaeum, the Radio Hall, the Auditorium Hall and the Odeon Theatre during 90 concerts held in Bucharest. Bucharest will host concerts performed by 51 orchestras from 16 countries, 150 soloists, and over 60 conductors, participating in the most important artistic event Romania offers to the world: George Enescu International Music Festival.

This year’s official program includes six series of concerts, each with a different theme, built for the specifics of each hall and the audience it is addressed to. The series of great orchestras of the world – brings 13 international orchestras and three orchestras from Romania to the stage of the Sala Palatului in a musical marathon of 29 concerts in 29 consecutive days.

The series of Romanian orchestras represents the meeting of the public with the interpretative qualities of orchestras from our country, each with its own specifics, in a varied program, which includes romantic or modern authors as well as contemporary music. The program will include ten representative ensembles from Bucharest and five other cities in the country.

Among the essential orchestras that will participate in this year’s edition are the Vienna Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the National Orchestra of France, the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

First-class international conductors will take the stage in Bucharest and the country, and among them are Cristian Măcelaru, Zubin Mehta, Sir Simon Rattle, Wilson Hermanto, Paavo Jarvi, Delyana Lazarova, Lawrence Foster or Vladimir Jurowski.

But all these led to his being banned from entering some countries. The last one, the Republic of Moldova, refused his entry after he landed by plane with his band at the Chisinau airport last week. He was expected to perform at the Gustar Music Festival in Old Orhei, but the organizers announced the change – the artist left Moldova but hopes one day will return and have a concert here.

While hated in Moldova, Bregovic is still loved in Romania. On September 2, he is the star at the Jurilovka Festival in the Danube Delta, where 100,000 people are expected to attend during the two days of the weekend.

Also, on October 7th, the artist is expected to perform at the Palace Hall in Bucharest with his Wedding and Funeral Band. His concert will undoubtedly attract many fans, and it is one of the most expected events in Bucharest this autumn.

Politics should never beat sports, media and arts. Yet, this sort of thing happens, unfortunately, for artists, journalists, creators and sportsmen with a different view than the approved one.

Art should never be banned, not even when the artists’ views do not coincide with the current political agenda.
