The Romanian authorities do not allow the participation of the delegations of Russia and Belarus in the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, which will take place in Romania between June 29 and July 3, announces the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) on Saturday, June 15.

Delegates from over 50 OSCE member states will attend the event in Bucharest.

The Romanian authorities decided not to allow the Russian Federation delegation to participate in the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, held in Romania from June 29 to July 3. The measure will be applied to all members of the delegation, parliamentarians and technical staff.
The decision of the Romanian parties is based on the known and consistent position of Romania in relation to the Russian Federation in the context of the ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine. Also, some of the members of the Russian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly are targeted by restrictive measures at the level of the European Union. The decision also targets Belarus, a supporter of the war started by the Russian Federation.
Radu Filip, spokesperson of Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is the world’s largest regional security organization, working for stability, peace, and democracy across Europe and beyond. With 57 participating states, it serves as a platform for dialogue and cooperation on various security threats, including conflict prevention, arms control, human rights, and promoting good governance.

The OSCE’s work is multifaceted, encompassing:

Conflict Prevention and Crisis Management: The OSCE deploys observers to monitor tensions and support peaceful resolutions.

Promoting Democracy and Human Rights: The organization advocates for free and fair elections, media freedom, and the protection of minorities.

Arms Control and Confidence-Building Measures: The OSCE facilitates agreements on conventional weapons and military transparency.

Economic and Environmental Security: The organization addresses issues like cybercrime, trafficking, and sustainable resource management.

Through its comprehensive approach, the OSCE plays a vital role in maintaining stability and fostering cooperation across the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions.

Romania played lousy in Budapest with Belarus on Thursday, October 12, and lost the opportunity to take the lead in Group I. The final result, 0-0, sent the away team to a complicated perspective, with Israel having a good chance to topple Romania and grab second place in the group.

The game was played in Budapest as Belarus is sanctioned by the international football associations for its political alliance with Russia.

Despite the chances to score, both teams lost good opportunities and favoured Israel. The Jewish team has its next games postponed by the European Football Federation because of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The games could be played long after the other games in Group I have finished, and Romania has one game remaining, away against Israel.

The standing in Group I shows the complicated perspective for Romania, which takes second place currently but can lose it to Israel.

Romania still has three more games to play, with Andorra and Switzerland at home and Israel away. After the last night’s performance, Romania’s chances to qualify have decreased, but the team plays its chance until the end.

There is too much money in the Romanian state accounts, it seems. On Friday, December 24, the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Romania took a rather strange decision by sending money to support the press in Belarus, a decision only justified by the Christmas spirit.

According to a press release, the Romanian Foreign Minister offered 120,000 EUR to civil society and the independent press in Belarus. By doing that, Romania hopes for supporting consolidation initiatives of democracy and the respect of human rights in Belarus, the press release says.

All the funds were granted through the European Endowment for Democracy (EED) organization.

Apart from the good intentions of this initiative, as we cannot argue when the independent press is supported by any means, one cannot help asking how much money Romania has if it affords to send money abroad. Also, one cannot help wondering why Romania chose to help a former soviet state during the complicated context of the Russian-Ukrainian cold conflict near the Romanian border.

Two main questions derive from this observation:

How much money does Romania spend each year on such actions abroad?

What are the countries whom Romania supports by sending funds to the independent press?

One good news derives from this Governmental extravagance, though. Now, the Bucharest and Timisoara city residents will undoubtedly get warmer in their cold apartments, thinking about how Romania helps the independent journalism in Belarus.

Have you ever heard of Slavia-Mozyr? Or maybe you heard of Energetic-BGU? Nor about Ruh Brest?

In fact, if you are a football fan, an European one, you probably heard about BATE Borisov. For all the rest of you, we only say all are Belarus Premier League football teams As opposed to other European national football federations, Belarus federation, Vysheyshaya Liga, decided to let the games play and the fans to crowd the stadiums.

At the moment, Belarus is the only place in Europe where professional football is played. Ten different countries expressed their interest in broadcasting the matches played here, among them Russia, Israel or even India.

As the rest of European football is quarantined and as in Belarus there are some strong teams, including BATE, one of the teams who plays almost every year in the Champions League , it is very possible for other countries to express their will in buying the TV rights for broadcasting the games.
