As tourists visiting Viscri have always been very keen to see and learn as much as possible about the connection that HRH The Prince of Wales has with the village, the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation decided in 2021 to transform the house in Viscri into an open house that speaks about his passion for traditional architecture, sustainable agriculture, the protection of biodiversity and our valuable cultural heritage – in other words, about the love of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales for Romania.

Purchased in 2006, following the visits of the Prince of Wales to the area, the house at Viscri 163 functioned as a guesthouse until 2021, being an example of good practices in transforming a simple country house into a space where tourists can appreciate the beauty of traditional architecture, they can taste local products and enjoy nature.

The converted courtyard of the house at 163 Viscri today houses the permanent exhibition The Transylvania Florilegium, highlighting the first books of this quality dedicated to the plants of this region, commissioned by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, a passionate supporter of the preservation of this precious environment.

Tourists can taste local products

The paintings of the floristry were created by some of the best contemporary botanical artists in the world, who for five years visited Transylvania, studying the flora in the area of ​​the properties of HRH Prince of Wales in Viscri and Valea Zălanului.

In Transylvanian floristry, scientific information accompanies each of the 124 botanical illustrations, grouped in two volumes that will bring awareness to the diversity and beauty of the Transylvanian flora and inspire people to help preserve it.

Visiting the House of the Prince of Wales in Viscri, tourists will discover a simple, traditional Saxon household and can taste local products in the cafe.

While walking through the gardens, visitors will learn about the summer schools organized by the Prince of Wales Foundation in Romania in partnership with the Romanian Order of Architects (OAR) and about a gardening project implemented for children in the village.
