Călin Georgescu, a far-right presidential candidate in Romania, has been detained and taken into custody by police while in traffic and placed under criminal investigation by the Prosecutor General’s Office. This development significantly escalates the ongoing political controversy surrounding Georgescu’s campaign and activities.

Criminal Investigation and Charges vs. Calin Georgescu

On February 26, 2025, the Prosecutor General’s Office initiated criminal proceedings against Georgescu for several serious offences:

Instigating Actions Against the Constitutional Order: Georgescu is accused of instigating actions that could undermine the constitutional order, a serious offence under Romanian law.

Communicating False Information: He is also charged with spreading false information, including making false statements about his campaign financing or other matters.

False Declarations: Georgescu is accused of making false declarations regarding the sources of his campaign financing and his wealth.

Initiating a Fascist Organization: There are allegations that he initiated or supported a fascist organization, which is illegal under Romanian law.

Promoting Fascist Ideologies: Georgescu is accused of promoting fascist, legionary, racist, or xenophobic ideologies in public, which is prohibited by law.

Promoting Antisemitic Organizations: Additionally, he is accused of promoting or supporting antisemitic organizations.

Despite the criminal accusations, Georgescu was freed by the prosecutors under judicial control. He also has to avoid media appearances.

Georgescu’s campaign was marred by allegations of significant online support orchestrated by Russia, primarily through social media platforms. The Supreme Defense Council of Romania declassified documents suggesting that his campaign was aided by a “state actor,” though the specific country was not named. This led to cancelling the runoff election scheduled for December 8, 2024.

Public Reaction and Support

Despite these serious allegations, Georgescu continues to receive significant public support. George Simion, leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), has strongly backed Georgescu, viewing the legal actions as an attempt to block his future political candidacies. Simion has announced plans for protests in support of Georgescu, calling the actions against him “abuses” and demanding explanations from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Elon Musk, the influential billionaire, has been involved in the controversy surrounding Georgescu. Musk has used his social media platforms to express support for Georgescu and criticize the annulment of the Romanian elections, which he described as undemocratic.

The investigation into Călin Georgescu’s activities represents a critical moment in Romania’s ongoing political crisis. The charges against him underscore the deep divisions within Romanian society and the challenges facing its democratic institutions.

As Romania prepares for new elections, these developments will likely continue to shape the country’s political landscape and international perceptions.

The investigation into the shocking assassination of businessman Ioan Crișan, who was killed in a bomb attack in May 2021, has taken a dramatic turn as authorities conduct new searches related to the case. The violent incident, which sent shockwaves through the local community and raised alarms about organized crime, remains a focal point of ongoing inquiries.

Now, police sources claim the forces have identified the main suspect: apparently, his daughter ordered the assassination, but the investigation is still under development.

A Shocking Crime

On May 29, 2021, Ioan Crișan drove his vehicle out of the parking lot in front of a cafe in Arad, Western Romania, when his vehicle exploded in a devastating attack. The blast not only claimed the life of a prominent businessman but also left the community grappling with questions about safety and the potential for criminal activity within the region’s business circles.

Crișan, known for his various ventures, had reportedly faced disputes that may have led to his untimely death.

Investigation Unfolds

In the immediate aftermath of the bombing, Romanian authorities launched an extensive investigation. The Prosecutor’s Office quickly categorized the incident as first-degree manslaughter. Over the years, investigators have sifted through evidence and interviewed numerous witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the attack.

Recent developments have revealed that several individuals close to Crișan are now under scrutiny. Among them are his daughter and three men from his inner circle. These suspects are believed to have connections to Crișan’s business dealings and personal life, raising alarm about potential motives tied to financial disputes or personal grievances.

As part of their renewed efforts, police conducted searches this week concerning these suspects. Authorities are keen to uncover any evidence that might shed light on the circumstances surrounding Crișan’s assassination. The involvement of family members in such a high-profile case adds an unsettling dimension to an already complex investigation.

In a groundbreaking operation, Romanian authorities made a record seizure of cocaine, uncovering an astonishing quantity of illicit substance concealed within shipments of 16 tons of fruit pulp. As officials mentioned, the drugs had The Netherlands as their final destination.

The operation, dubbed “Exotic,” has resulted in multiple arrests and has shed light on the sophisticated methods employed by drug traffickers to smuggle narcotics into the country.

The bust occurred during a routine inspection at a logistics facility, where customs officials became suspicious of several shipments labelled as fruit pulp. Upon further investigation, they discovered the cocaine expertly hidden within the cargo. This seizure marks one of the largest drug busts in Romanian history, reflecting both the scale of the trafficking operation and the ingenuity of those involved.

Following the discovery, authorities launched an extensive investigation that led to the arrest of several individuals believed to be part of the trafficking network. The Romanian police, in collaboration with international law enforcement agencies, are working to dismantle the entire operation and trace its origins.

This significant seizure not only highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Romania but also raises concerns about the methods used by traffickers to evade detection. The use of seemingly innocuous shipments, such as fruit pulp, demonstrates how criminals continually adapt their tactics to exploit gaps in security measures.

Officials are urging increased vigilance among customs and border protection agencies worldwide as they confront evolving challenges in drug smuggling. The success of Operation Exotic serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough inspections and international cooperation in combating drug trafficking.

As authorities continue investigating this record-breaking seizure, the focus remains on preventing similar operations from succeeding. The implications of this bust extend beyond Romania, signalling a need for enhanced strategies and collaboration among nations to tackle the global drug trade effectively.

Update: The judge decided that the brothers should be released. The decision is final. The reason is that the two are investigated in Romania in a different criminal file. Thus, the extradition procedure is postponed until the Romanian justice finishes their trial and the case in Romania is closed.

initial news: The Tate brothers were arrested again on Monday, March 11, evening by authorities in Romania in connection with new charges from a criminal file in the UK. Andrew and Tristan Tate are in the custody of the Romanian Police and are to appear in front of a judge who will decide their extradition to the United Kingdom.

According to information from sources, these accusations refer to facts of a sexual nature in a file of the prosecutors from Great Britain.

On March 11 of this year, around 23:15, the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service, of the Special Actions Service and local police officers implemented two European arrest warrants, issued by the judicial authorities in Great Britain, for the commission of sexual crimes, exploitation of persons on the territory of Great Britain.
Romanian Police on Tate brothers being arrested again

Allegedly, four women had filed a civil action against the brothers, the alleged crimes being committed between 2013 and 2016 when the brothers were still living in the UK. The complaints mention bodily injury and psychological damage caused by the alleged violent sexual and physical assaults, as well as coercive control.

The two men were presented to the prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court of Appeal, who ordered the detention measure for 24 hours.

The Tate brothers were arrested in December 2022 and spent three months in police custody and under arrest.

In March last year, the court decided to replace the measure of preventive arrest for the Tate brothers and for the two accomplices, Georgiana Naghel and former police officer Alexandra-Luana Radu, with house arrest for 30 days, from 31.03.2023, until 29.04.2023, inclusive.

On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Romanian prosecutors and police officers brought back to the country three prehistoric gold bracelets (Bronze Age and early Hallstatt period, middle-end of the 2nd millennium BC) originating from archaeological sites on the territory of Romania.

The bracelets were taken from the MAS Museum in Antwerp, Belgium.

The three cultural assets of great value, protected by law, were stolen by unknown perpetrators and subsequently alienated. Two bracelets were identified when offered for sale at a public auction in the Principality of Monaco. The third bracelet was identified during the home search of the residence in Belgium of the person who submitted the two bracelets to the auction house in Monte Carlo with a view to public sale, the Romanian Public Ministry reports.

On October 27, 2020, the Belgian judicial authorities signalled the appearance of the two bracelets in an auction catalogue in Monte Carlo. On November 11, 2020, the criminal investigation officers in Romania notified ex officio regarding the commission of the crime of qualified theft.

A criminal investigation was started, and later, the criminal investigation was extended to the crime of carrying out illegal export operations.

The administered evidence showed that the three bracelets come from archaeological sites in northwestern Romania. Obtaining an export certificate, a document that does not exist, was necessary for their export.

To make it possible to return the bracelets to Romania, it was necessary for the Flemish Regional Ministry – the Department of Culture to initiate a declassification procedure (the bracelets being protected by Flemish law as precious artifacts, being entered on a list of heritage assets).

The action to return the bracelets was made possible by excellent judicial cooperation with the investigating judge from the Court of First Instance of Veurne – Belgium and benefited from the support of the Flemish Regional Ministry – Department for Culture, the Romanian Embassy in Brussels and the national member at Eurojust.

The seizure was instituted on these assets, and they will be handed over to the custody of the National History Museum of Romania until the case is finally resolved, and they will be subjected to multidisciplinary expertise (physicochemical, museography, etc.).

Bucharest is one of the cities filled with Asian immigrants. Most fled their miserable lives in their native countries and arrived in Romania’s Capital looking for a decent job. But decent jobs are hard to find in Bucharest, especially for an Asian immigrant with little or no knowledge.

Hence, Asians got to work in street cleaning, garbage management or food delivery. The last one is what makes Bucharest a chaotic city currently, as all these Asians driving their scooters in one of the most jammed cities in Europe wreak havoc.

Tens of serious accidents involving reckless Asian drivers delivering food made not only the clients skip their lunch, but also the Bucharest Police Department think about how to make all these bad drivers understand they drive in Europe now. And when the police realized how bad the situation was, they started teaching…driving lessons with the immigrants.

It’s enough to watch some videos on YouTube to understand how Asians drive in their native countries.

This is unacceptable if this is normal in Vietnam or any other chaotic country, in Bucharest. This is why Bucharest Police started driving lessons to make the immigrants understand the laws in Romania and the EU.

The preventive and educational activities the Bucharest Road Brigade carries out are a priority. In this context, I approved the organization of such a road education seminar. It is essential to explain that traffic rules save lives. During this event, we presented, in English, an introduction to road legislation so that delivery people coming from countries with different traffic cultures would first know the traffic rules and then understand the obligation to comply with them. Through such presentations, we hope to decrease the number of road incidents involving foreign nationals performing delivery services.
Bucharest Police Department official about reckless Asian driving

In English? But of course, only that most of these Valentino Rossi failed wannabes understand no other language but their native one. We’re unsure how many of them correctly understood what they were taught, but one thing is for sure – there are thousands of such reckless drivers in Bucharest, more thousands coming each month, and it is impossible to teach them proper driving in due time.

The mistake is, obviously, a strategic one. It belongs to the Government, but the officials fear to admit that. When offering close to 1 million working permits to all these poor drivers in just a few years, one should expect that Bucharest will turn in Ho Chi Minh in one decade.

At the moment, we advise paying attention to any delivery guy on a moped if you drive in Bucharest (which we don’t recommend, by the way). They are unpredictable and chaotic and turn suddenly, expecting the others to make room in traffic for them.

Will this madness on the Bucharest streets end soon? We’re not quite sure about that, as in one week schools are starting in Romania. That will make Bucharest even more chaotic, and the serious accidents and death toll will increase exponentially.

If you add that many Ukrainian refugees drive chaotically in Romania, causing tens of deaths and injuries, the picture is more adequate, and one should understand why Bucharest is not the safest city to drive in. As long as the Romanian Government is too blind to see that all these immigrants are a risk to Bucharest residents, things can only worsen.

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were arrested on Friday, December 30, under suspicion of human trafficking. Initially, they were under police custody for 24 hours. Now a judge issued a 30-day arrest sentence, from which the first day in detention is to be deducted.

The accusations brought to the Tate brothers are quite the same as in spring this year. The two are accused by the anti-organized crime unit of the Romanian Prosecutor’s Office of sexually exploiting young girls:

In the case, it was noted that, at the beginning of 2021, 4 suspects (two British citizens and two Romanian citizens) constituted an organized criminal group with a view to committing crimes on the territory of Romania, but also of other countries, such as the United States of America and Great Britain, of the crime of human trafficking. British citizens recruited the victims by misleading them about the intention to establish a marriage/cohabitation relationship and the existence of real feelings of love (the so-called loverboy method). They were later transported and housed in buildings in Ilfov County where, by exercising acts of physical violence and mental coercion (through intimidation, constant surveillance, control and invoking alleged debts), they were sexually exploited by group members by forcing them to perform demonstrations pornographic with a view to producing and disseminating material of such a nature through social media platforms and by submitting to the execution of a work, in a forced manner, in order to obtain important financial benefits consisting of the sums of money obtained as a result of accessing the materials by the users.
Romanian Anti-Mafia Department Press Release

Andrew Tate, a former kickboxer, is famous for his reach on social media following his controversial opinions. He boasted a luxurious lifestyle, and his views attracted the fury of feminists worldwide. Also, they were followed by millions of those who shared their anti-system views and wanted to ‘escape the Matrix’ as one of his favourite lines said.

Andrew ‘Cobra’ Tate and his brother Tristan have the right to appeal the initial decision, which might offer them a chance to be freed from custody.

Rumour has it Andrew unintentionally revealed his location in Romania after posting on Twitter a video where he displayed boxes of a local pizza brand, Jerry’s Pizza. Apparently, Romanian police couldn’t locate him or know whether he was in Romania, which gave him away.

The video was posted in reply to Greta Thunberg, the controversial environment activist after she used unsuitable language to address Andrew’s opinions on the environment.

In the past eight months, there have been over 1,000 fatalities and 2,260 serious injuries nationwide due to traffic accidents.

The General Inspectorate of Romanian Police reported that between January 1 and August 30, 2,878 accidents were reported nationally, killing 1,029 individuals and seriously injuring 2,258 more.

According to the source cited, there were 185 fewer seriously injured persons (-7.6%), 88 fewer fatalities (-7.9%), and 253 fewer accidents during the same period in 2021.

What are the main causes of road accidents?

According to the Inspectorate, pedestrian negligence (18%), resulted in 517 accidents, 215 fatalities, and 307 serious injuries, and non-compliance with the legal speed limit (18%), which led to 517 accidents, 201 deaths, and 431 serious injuries, were the two main causes of severe road accidents.

Additionally, according to the police, not giving priority to vehicles (8.2%) resulted in 237 accidents, which resulted in the deaths of 52 people and the severe injuries of another 209, and not giving priority to pedestrians (8.2%) in 237 accidents, which resulted in the deaths of 86 people and the serious injuries of 237 others, are among the main causes of severe road accidents. These factors account for 63.6% of all serious road accidents.

At the same time, 14,586 traffic violations were found, of which 5,183 involved blood alcohol levels over the legal limit, 3,179 involved driving without a license, 2,044 involved using a permit that did not fit the vehicle category, and 1,706 involved violations of withdrawn, cancelled, or suspended licenses. driving while intoxicated by drugs of abuse and 2,474 other infractions.

Road accidents have remained at an alarming level for several years. Unfortunately, Romania occupies a leading place in the European Union in this chapter. It seems that this percentage is increasing significantly in the last period. Both the negligence of pedestrians and drivers and the unsafe roads in Romania are factors that increase the rate of road accidents every year. Comparing countries like Sweden, which has the lowest rate of road accidents, there is no excuse that the situation in Romania cannot improve. However, where are the changes?
