Romania is one of the countries which allows the Asian labor force to temporarily live and work in Romania. The Asian working force recruiting companies spot the market’s needs and supply the workers to the domains where they are needed the most: agriculture, constructions, hospitality, or even IT.

Romanian companies need more and more workers, as the internal supply is constantly diminishing. According to studies, up to 300,000 workers are needed to fulfill the market’s needs. We talk here about hospitality, agriculture, constructions, IT, different industries, and so on. Can the recruiting companies fulfill this need as well from the foreign labor force supply?

Unfortunately, no. The fact is the Romanian law allows only 30,000 permits for foreign workers. This caps the supply and the companies in need of Asian workers can only wait for a new batch if the annual limit was reached.

This is the context of the official meeting between the Filipino Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and the Romanian Embassy Chargè d’Affaires Mihail Sion. The two officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to hire more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) for Romania.

So far, around 1,500 Filipino workers live in Romania mostly employed in health and safety and transportation companies. The memorandum will improve the liaison between the two countries in terms of recruitment of the Filipino working force in Romania.
