The “Romania Unfolds” platform revolves around a mini-series of 6 video documentaries which uncover impactful stories of communities that have solved specific, local challenges by using accessible, sustainable solutions.

With each episode, the series also captures local progress through in-depth research, quality journalism, and authentic images that depict a new face of Romania. These empowering stories prove that local communities are a driving force when sustainable solutions and high-impact actions are put to good use.

“Romania Unfolds”, the first Romanian documentary mini-series on local sustainability

The central theme in episode one is sustainable cities and communities, while the following five episodes in production focus on other subjects in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as reducing social inequalities, responsible production and consumption, innovation in industry and infrastructure, and clean water.

The series’ first episode consists of two case studies: we first meet the residents of Targu Lăpuș, the first town in Romania to have reached a 60% recycling rate, surpassing not only the national – municipal – waste-recycling rate of 13% but also the European average of 49%. Next, the first cooperative community in Romania to provide energy from 100% renewable sources, a proper legacy for future generations.

In addition to the mini-series, the “Romania Unfolds” platform provides access to original editorial content, providing information on impactful, sustainable initiatives, projects, or practices implemented throughout Romania.

The “Romania Unfolds” project is supported by Veolia, a world leader in providing essential services and a champion of ecological transformation.

Through this initiative, Veolia stands by its commitment to become a Champion of Ecological Transformation by providing access to sustainability information and uncovering sustainable solutions capable of mediating the impact of today’s challenges. In this way, we contribute to increasing the educational value within the communities in which we operate. Romania Unfolds uncovers solutions for actions that have a decisive positive impact on the environment. Still, also a bridge future links between communities, academia, industry, and the authorities.
Mădălin Mihailovici, CEO of Veolia Romania

So far, “Romania Unfolds” has brought together 30 sustainability, video production, and communication experts who share the same passion for creating a better future for Romania.

The following five episodes will shed light on different sustainability issues in Romania, empowering and educating society.

Israel’s Nofar Energy intends to invest EUR 300 million in Romanian renewable energy.

Nofar Energy, based in Israel, plans to develop or purchase wind and solar projects in Romania, where it wants to invest more than EUR 300 million in 2023-2024.

According to a See News, the firm wants to attain 1GW of renewable energy source (RES) capacity in Romania by the end of 2022, both organically and through acquisitions.

We have the necessary financial resources, and our shareholders are very open to investments in Romania.
Nofar Energy Romania CEO Favi Stelian

Nofar also stated that it had secured a EUR 130 million deal for a 169-megawatt photovoltaic project in Iepuresti, Giurgiu county, completed in the first half of 2023. Depending on the technical conditions of the national power system, the project will most likely be expanded to 400 MWp.

This is probably the largest investment in renewable energy near Bucharest and in Romania. Nofar will continue to operate all power plants after the construction of the projects in its portfolio.
Nofar Energy Romania CEO Favi Stelian

Nofar Energy is a publicly-traded, worldwide renewable energy firm. The company, founded in 2011, has grown at an astonishing rate because of its diverse capabilities, which allow for flexibility and speed while completing projects autonomously.

Nofar Energy also owns, alongside Eco energy, the Rătești park, Romania’s largest photovoltaic park under development, which is due to be connected to the grid in 2022.

Even if we entered the Romanian market in 2021, we already purchased last year – together with a partner – the 155 MWp Rătești photovoltaic project, a project for which the construction started. Currently, it is the largest photovoltaic project, but the Iepurești project will become number 1 once completed.
Nofar Energy Romania CEO Favi Stelian

According to the company’s website, the company’s activities include ground-mounted solar projects, floating solar projects on water reservoirs, rooftop solar projects, and power storage projects.
