Dinamo lost the playoff against Universitatea Cluj, 1-3 overall, after a 0-2 in the first round and a 1-1 in Bucharest. Dinamo will compete in the second league for the first time since its inception in 1948.

The end of the match needed the intervention of the gendarmerie forces inside the stadium. The players retreated to the locker room under the protection of the gendarmes, who shielded them from going to the tunnel without being hit by objects thrown by the fans. The gendarmes were deployed in large numbers after fans threatened the Dinamo players with physical violence.

Dinamo is one of Romania’s most illustrious clubs, having won 18 champion titles and 13 Romanian Cups. The club, founded 74 years ago, was the first in Romania to reach the semifinals of the European Champions Cup in 1984. Also, Dinamo played other semifinals in the European Cups Cup but has fallen to the second division and is now facing bankruptcy.

Dinamo’s decline began when Pablo Cortasero bought it in 2020 through an international company called Benel International SA. Cortacero ran a Spanish amateur club, CD Imperio, for a time while running a real estate business. Pablo attempted to take over two Spanish clubs before joining Dinamo, Almeria and Getafe. After this, Dinamo Team faced financial problems, and the performance on the football field decreased significantly. Over time the team did not perform to the liking of the fans.

What’s next for Dinamo after relegation? Bankruptcy? This relegation could also lead to the actual bankruptcy of Dinamo. According to shareholders, the team can no longer comply with the reorganization plan, with revenues drastically declining due to the relegation.

On the other hand, Dinamo supporters, who kept the club alive so far by paying the salaries, are the only ones who can help Dinamo continue in League 2. Still, many unknown facts to the public have to be taken into account regarding the future of Dinamo.

DINAMO Bucharest finally got rid of its major stakeholder, the former owner Ionut Negoita. Lately, he refused to finance the team anymore and offered his shares for 1 Euro, with the condition the new owner would also pay the club’s debt.

DINAMO Bucharest fans started one of the most dramatic attempts to save a football club: they set up an association formed by DINAMO supporters and offered membership cards for certain sums of money. The money collected by the supporters, through the program they named ONLY DINAMO BUCHAREST, helped the club pay the salaries to the players for a couple of months, but also helped the club with a part of the costs for obtaining a new Liga I licence, the first Romanian football league.

Pablo Cortacero bought the majority stake in the club through a company registered in Luxembourg, Benel International SA. His conditions for buying the club were both met only in the last month: the club should have remained in Liga I and the club should’ve got the licence for playing the in first Romanian football league.

‘Derby de Romania‘, as it is known among football fans, was won by the underdogs, (DINAMO are also known for their nickname of ‘red dogs“), as everybody expects FCSB to have an easy game against their rivals. Yet, DINAMO won the game in a very determined manner with the open support of those almost 20,000 DINAMO ultras who chanted from the beginning to the end of the game.

DINAMO players wore T-shirts with ‘DOAR DINAMO BUCURESTI‘ (Only DINAMO Bucharest) written on front, as a grateful gesture to the supporters who take part in this program, DDB.

It is worth mentioning that most of the DINAMO fans are also club shareholders through the DDB program: “Only Dinamo Bucharest” fans shareholder’s program club. This is an unique case in Europe, when fanatic supporters help their favourite team by buying shares to the club; so far the DDB program helped supporters buy 10% of the club’s shares and it is an ongoing process.

The money collected helped the club pay the salaries to the technical staff and the players, as the club owner refuses to pay any money to the club anymore. This is why the supporter’s association decided to proceed like this and to help the team.

DINAMO Bucharest is to be bought by an important EAU investor, who already bought Charleston football club, from England. His conditions, though, are for the club to get his license for another year, meaning all the debts to be paid in due time, including the salaries to the players, and for the club to stay in the first division of the Romanian football championship.

Anybody can buy shares at DINAMO through this unique program and, if you’re a fan, you can do it as well, with only EUR 48 per year or, for the elite members, EUR 1948 per year, both offering different advantages to the shareholders.

The announcement has been officially made: Abu Dhabi Business Development is interested in acquiring DINAMO Bucharest, one of the major Romanian clubs, with tradition, the greatest fans and lots of cups and trophies won. The UAE investment group belongs to Tahnoon Nimer, a billionaire who is not at its first football acquisition. Recently, Abu Dhabi Business Development bought Charlton Athletic from the second English football league. Interesting enough, both clubs, the Romanian and the English one, have the same colors, white and red.

DINAMO Bucharest has the most fanatic fans in Romania. Not once they shocked the European football lovers with their stadium choreographies, elaborated and full of symbols and significance. A few years ago they simply infiltrated inside the stadium during one European football game of their biggest rivals, FCSB, and, by tricking the owner of the club, who thought they were from a reputable company who offers stadium choreographies, they displayed a message on the stadium, by making FCSB supporters dress particular garment. The message said ”ONLY DINAMO BUCHAREST” and this PR stunt went viral all over the world.

The same supporters, as fanatic and as creative might they be, can’t play themselves in the pitch. Moreover, they lost their patience waiting for the football players to get the club where it once belonged, in the Champions League semi-finals.

Now, this announcement seems to solve the situation. The problem with DINAMO is they don’t have an investor. The Romanian football, the whole of it, lost some of its football investors after Romanian justice decided to tackle all the financial mistakes some of the owners did. Thus, DINAMO owner, along others, went to prison, while the clubs were bought by so-called “investors”, whose main concerns were how to sell valuable players and get lots of money fast.

By getting such an investor, DINAMO fans will probably see their dear stadium rebuilt or refurbished, as DINAMO remained the oldest Bucharest stadium with no major repairs since its construction. Also, a proper coach and valuable players will contribute to the successes DINAMO Bucharest will definitely meet in the future.

The conditions for the investor to buy the club are simple – DINAMO has to get the license for the next season, which means it has to have no debt towards the players, but also to stay in the first league. Some of them already left the club, being sold in order for the old debts to be paid.

The future will tell, but for a billionaire looking to buy a football club with such a tradition and with such creative and devoted supporters, DINAMO Bucharest seems to be the very right choice.
