As reported by Simple Flying, Romania’s Dan Air behind Airbus A320 flights on June 1st. Previously known as Just Us Air, Dan Air has 18 scheduled routes. The name comes from Captain Dan Luhas, who set up Just Us Air, a wet lease and charter operator.

According to ch-aviation.com, Dan Air has two A320s and one A319, with a third A320 coming. It has an average fleet age of 15.6 years. It appears that its A320s will be used on its scheduled flights.

Dan Air has 18 routes bookable: 11 from Romania’s capital, Bucharest, and seven from Brasov. Brasov-Ghimbav is a new airport that is set to open in June, serving the country’s sixth most populous city. While it is not yet fully definite, it appears the IATA code will be BRV, previously used by Germany’s Bremerhaven.

According to the source mentioned above, Dan Air’s inaugural flight is due to leave Bucharest for Nuremberg on June 1st. JOC101 is scheduled to depart at 06:00, and JOC102 is expected to return at 16:40.

Several companies have tried to cover the gap following Blue Air’s insolvency. After the company suspended all flights, Wizz, Dan and AirConnect fought to supply in a demanding market. Competition is good, let’s see about the quality of the services all these companies provide.

Smooth flights!

Romanian air company Blue Air decided to suspend all flights. The decision came as the Romanian Agency for Environment blocked the bank accounts of the air company for a substantial debt to the environment fund. The obligation of the air company to the Environment Fund is EUR 5,7 million.

This decision affects around 3,000 Romanian passengers who cannot return home or fly to the foreign destinations they bought tickets for.

The Romanian Government officials intervened publicly and asked Blue Air to revert the decision and start flying again, but the company’s representatives refused.

The scandal is even more significant as the Agency for the Environment is subordinated to the Ministry of Environment, and the minister is from the Hungarian minority. There are some speculations that the decision taken by the governmental agency favours Blue Air’s competitor, Wizz Air, which happens to be Hungarian.

Currently, a crisis cell has been made operational at the Romanian Government level. The most urgent decision was to make sure the Romanians abroad were being brought home, which was to be done with the help of the other Romanian company, the state-owned TAROM. Also, allegedly there is a request from PM Ciuca to the Minister of the Environment, Tanczos Barna, to unblock the bank accounts of Blue Air, thus making the flights possible for all those who have bought tickets.

Have you bought tickets for Blue Air flights? Please, check their webpage for any information regarding any decision that impacts your plans.

Romanian low-cost airline, Blue Air, was fined due to cancelled flights and after many consumer complaints.

The Blue Air operator cancelled 11,289 flights between April 30, 2021, and April 30, 2022, affecting 178,405 reservations and requiring compensation from customers in 20 Member States of the European Union totalling EUR 13 million.

The National Authority for Consumer Protection in Romania (ANPC) fined Blue Air with EUR 2 million after a series of controls made following the notifications received.

As a supplemental sanction to the imposition of this contravention fine, ANPC mandated that all cancelled reservations for which the economic operator has not properly reimbursed the amounts due, including compensation after the cancellation, be terminated and their associated compensation refunded in full within 10 days. In addition, it was mandated that no flight offers should be made available to customers on the market if the economic operator has the capabilities, resources, or means to carry them out while adhering to all stated terms and specifications.

Blue Air’s reaction

Through its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Oana Petrescu, Blue Air Company asserts that it found out about the ANPC fine from the press and rejects the numbers used by the institution.

It is not normal to find such a thing from the press. I just checked, and the company did not receive any communication in this regard from ANPC. In addition, the figures are wrong – it refers to all tickets cancelled during that period due to pandemic waves 3, 4 and 5 (which anyway represent less than 10% of all Blue Air flights in that period). Of the total number of passengers mentioned, most have either already travelled or will travel this summer.
Blue Air’s statement

Blue Air stated that ANPC shouldn’t have made the announcement public and instead, the authority should have talked to the company, clarifying the issue pivately.

It is a difficult time for the entire aviation, and the management and the people of Blue Air make enormous efforts to solve every day all the challenges that arise, so that our passengers have the predictability so necessary for a pleasant and safe holiday; I really don’t understand why we need to have this discussion now, with the press, before we had a direct communication between the company and the authority, as would have been normal.
Oana Petrescu, Blue Air CEO

In 2020, Blue Air Blue Air was close to insolvency, being severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. In other words, the company couldn’t afford to cancel flights or paying now a fine of EUR 2 million.

Blue air consumers complained to ANPC because after the cancelled flights they did not receive their money. Some clients have waited for months, while others have waited for years. Many customers indicate that they do not get responses from the business and that they are unable to get in touch with anyone to get the matter clarified. However, according to European Union regulation, clients must get their money refunded within seven days if a company cancels a flight.

Romanian private airline company Blue Air announces the introduction of direct flights from Bucharest, Romania, to Mykonos, Greece. The flights will be operated starting this summer and will help the Romanian tourists to get to one of their favorite Greek destinations in a shorter time.

Tourists will embark on Bucharest’s biggest airport, Otopeni, at 5:05 and will arrive in Mykonos at 06:35, after one and a half hour flight. The return flight takes off at 7:25 from Mykonos and arrives in Bucharest at 8:55.

The introduction of the direct flights to Mykonos will certainly help the Romanian tour operators a lot. They will be able to offer their clients attractive travelling packages at lower costs, especially in a year when everybody expects the pandemic to be finally overcome.

The price starts at 100 EUR for a roundtrip ticket, which is affordable for many Romanian tourists.

This way, the Romanian airliner completes its offer for Greece, which already included direct flights to Crete, Zakynthos and Rhodes. Hopefully, by summer we’ll witness the lifting of the restrictions.
